The genus Hypholoma is a generic synonym of Naematoloma.
Morphology: Cap smooth, not viscid, bright sulfur-yellow to greenish-yellow (3-6cm), often umbonate with a more darkly colored center. Gills typically adnate, at first sulfur-yellow, becoming greenish-yellow or olive, finally purple-brown to nearly black with spores. Spore print purple-brown to deep purple-gray. Chrysocystidia present on faces of gills. Ecology: Gregarious to cespitose on decaying logs and stumps; also in grass or on the ground above buried wood of both hardwoods and conifers. It occurs both in the spring and fall and may also be found during mild winters. Widely distributed in North America. |
